UNIRAZAK’s Online Distance Learning Was the Right Thing at The Right Time for Me
Pursuing his studies was not a priority to Saladdin Ramthandin, as he didn’t like the idea of having to stay at the same place for a long period of time just to complete his degree.
As he made his way into the working world, having travelled places of his own accord, he met many younger students who inspired him to pursue his education. In this story, Saladdin shares about his journey at UNIRAZAK.
Tell us about yourself and what inspires you to further your study even after years of working?
I have travelled and worked in London for almost 9 years and the entire time I was there, I’ve always seen our very own Malaysians graduated from the top universities in the UK.
Since I’ve been there for a while and know the area, I assisted them in completing their mission by helping them look for accommodation, suggest places to eat and pointed them to the right direction if they need a part-time job or something similar to that and while all of that was happening, I have witnessed their passion and eagerness.
Now that my business is stable and I can afford to spend some time elsewhere, it made me realise that now I have the opportunity to become a student myself and graduate just like these youngsters.
However, I didn’t fancy the idea of being stuck in the same place for as long as I take to complete my studies, and I found out about UNIRAZAK’s distance learning.
I consulted with the team at UNIRAZAK and they helped me to enrol through the Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL).
What major are you currently studying at UNIRAZAK and why did you choose the major?
In the near future, I plan to expand my business entity and have my business listed in Bursa Malaysia.
In order to make it happen, I need to have at least a basic understanding of Corporate Management.
With the help of the education counsellors at UNIRAZAK, I came to learn that the subjects that could help me increase my understanding of my field are available under the Management programme, so I decided to major in Bachelor of Management (BOM).
Having to study and focus on your career at the same time, how do you find the balance between work and study?
With everything online, it’s manageable. I have travelled abroad to Cambodia, United Kingdom and Kazakhstan whilst undergoing my degree journey at the same time.
At UNIRAZAK, I am able to participate in an online class with nothing else but a smartphone and internet connection.
If I missed out on anything during class, I didn’t have to worry because UROX made the learning materials available 24/7 for my convenience where I can access lecture notes and recordings.
Can you share more about studying through online distance learning at UNIRAZAK?
I am currently in my 3rd semester and I’ve been enjoying my study as I made new friends from Sabah, Sarawak and other regions.
I’ve met people from different kinds of fields like politics, oil and gas, plantation, property and construction.
We are always discussing using Whatsapp on our own time so we were able to share our experiences and use each other’s skills to help one another not only in regards to the subject but also career-wise.
Can you share with us more on how UNIRAZAK truly helps with elevating your future?
For me, I consider myself lucky because I have a solid business and income at this point of my life.
And with that, I have the time to invest in myself by upskilling to another level. For those struggling financially, I believe UNIRAZAK has helped the student to confront problems and difficulties before and will continue to do so.
With many options and pathways available at UNIRAZAK, future students can find a programme that is suitable for them at the time be it for something full time or part-time.
For me, when we have issues with exam schedule, courses and other related matters we always get help especially from Encik Muzamir.
The spirit of learning will always shine in UNIRAZAK and they will try their best to assist you in any way possible.
Your advice to the new students or any working adult who would love to further their study.
It’s never too late to study, though many of us have a lot of experience as working adult, we need to understand how the system works, it might be awkward to sit in the class with people younger age and sometimes you are older than a lecturer, but knowledge never know its boundary as long we can learn something it will always be a valuable experience.
