Overview
Tun Ahmad Sarji School of Goverment and Public Services (TASSGSP) is the leading centre for the study of Public Policy in Malaysia. Just like Tun Ahmad Sarji, we have a strong focus on economic development, governance and nation-building, both in our teaching and research.
Through our undergraduate programmes in Economics, Government and Public Policy as well as Leadership, we provide students with not only a strong academic rigour but also hands-on skills in project management and implementation.
We have excellent industry relations and through our internship programme, our students are exposed to practical training and real-life experience.
In order to fully recognise our focus on leadership and good governance, all our programmes are certified by Chartered Management Institute (CMI) United Kingdom.

Message

The name Tun Ahmad Sarji School of Goverment and Public Services (TASSGPS) has a particular meaning to me. As a student of development and governance, I often came across the unique history of development in Malaysia. Having dwelled deeper it the legacy of the Tun Ahmad Sarji period started to become clear to me.
Tun Ahmad Sarji was a true statesman; his leadership style and his focus on nation-building through economic development laid the foundation for Malaysia we know today. On a more technical level, as a policy analyst, I find Tun Ahmad Sarji’s approach to economic development inspiring. Instead of working within a particular economic perspective, he took what is known as a heterodox approach to economics. This resulted in economic policies – particularly those regarding rural development, poverty reduction and economic equality – that have truly stood the test of time.
Through his focus on nation-building and integration, Tun Ahmad Sarji emphasised policy development that would strengthen national ties and build bridges between urban and rural life. He focused on finding policy solutions that would work for the whole country.
At TASSGPS we are proud to be a part of Tun Ahmad Sarji’s legacy. In each of our programmes, we have embedded parts of what made the Tun Ahmad Sarji period so monumental in Malaysian political and economic history.
Our Economics programme is designed to promote sound economic policy that will benefit the whole nation. Our Government and Public Policy focuses on issues of good governance and how to promote nation-building and integrity through the policy process. Finally, Our Leadership programme focuses on building the leadership qualities that Tun Ahmad Sarji embodied throughout his career.
As Dean of TASSGPS, it has been with great pride that I see how successful our students have been in embodying Tun Ahmad Sarji’s legacy. Not only have our students achieved unique academic success – one example of this is our two Global Undergraduate Exchange Program (UGRAD) scholars – but they have also excelled both in public and private sector employment.
Thank you.
