Synopsis

The course examines the students with a guideline for identifying and designing compensation systems that add value to organizations. The students are initially exposed to the very basic principles of the “rational economic man” approach. This is latterly expanded to talk about motivational theories, which clearly identify the multiple approaches to human motivation, and what prompted people to do what they want and to be making their choices of monetary and non-monetary benefits. Students will explore the theory, concepts, and methods used to design compensation systems in a way that contributes to achieving the goals of the organization and its individual members. Attention will also be given to the various styles of wage and salary management and administration by employers, and their similarities and differences are analyzed.

  • To evaluate the framework for applying motivation theory to compensation practices
  • To discuss the different elements within compensation management processes and the inter-related planning, design and implementation issues
  • To identify the central role of the compensation system in attracting job seekers from the labour market
