APEL Counsellor

Description

The APEL Counsellor plays a key role in guiding and supporting candidates throughout the Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) application process at UNIRAZAK. This position focuses on assisting candidates in preparing their APEL portfolio, conducting courtesy calls to gather feedback, and ensuring candidates are well-informed and confident in using the APEL online system efficiently.

Responsibilities

  1. Candidate Support & Guidance
  • Provide one-to-one and group guidance sessions for candidates on APEL portfolio preparation.
  • Advise candidates on compiling evidence of prior learning, work experience, and achievements that meet APEL requirements.
  • Educate candidates on the structure, requirements, and standards expected in their portfolio submission.

    2. System Training & Assistance

  • Guide candidates on navigating and utilizing the APEL online system efficiently.
  • Provide step-by-step assistance in system use, troubleshooting common issues, and ensuring timely submission of documents.
  • Share best practices to optimize candidate experience with the APEL system

    3. Communication & Follow-up

  • Conduct courtesy calls to candidates to monitor progress, provide encouragement, and clarify any questions regarding their portfolio preparation.
  • Gather feedback from candidates on their preparation process and system usage.
  • Report candidate concerns, feedback, and recurring issues to the APEL Unit for improvements.

     4. Administration & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate records of candidate interactions, portfolio progress, and feedback.
  • Prepare progress updates and reports for management on candidate readiness and system performance.
  • Ensure confidentiality and integrity in handling candidate data and documents.

Requirements

Key Competencies & Skills

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a supportive, empathetic approach.
  • Ability to explain complex requirements in a clear and simple manner.
  • Familiarity with online learning systems, e-portfolios, or APEL platforms.
  • Good organizational and follow-up skills to track multiple candidate progress.
  • Problem-solving mindset with attention to detail.
  • Customer service orientation and ability to build rapport with diverse candidates.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counselling, Human Resource Development, or related field.
  • Prior experience in academic counselling, training, or adult learning support is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of the APEL framework and processes (preferred but not mandatory; training can be provided).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and basic online systems.
