Synopsis

This course attempts to introduce students to the basic concepts and problems in the consideration of accounting as an information system. Students will learn how accounting data flows through the organization and how they are stored and shared between information consumers from different departments. This course will illustrate to students how financial data is managed in repetitive cycles. Students will learn how to apply the accounting software in producing the full set of accounts for medium sized companies. This course also covers the issues of control and risk management in deciding the amount of security and integrity to be designed into an accounting information system.

Learning Outcomes

  • Explain matters relate to revenues, expenditures production cycle activities, general ledger items and role; component of accounting information systems and internal control using the documentation technique in organisations.
  • Describe the business processes, the related technologies, infrastructure and challenges and approaches in developing accounting information system.
  • Display practical aspects of computerised accounting system and be able to use an accounting software package.
