Synopsis

This course is designed to enable managers to understand the nature, use and context of financial procedures and information within the public sector. This module should assist future managers to use financial information and procedures to increase their own effectiveness, as the effective management and control of public resources is a key component of public sector management. This course introduces students to government financial policy and how this impacts on the delivery of public services and programmes. The course explores fiscal and spending policy and the budgetary process.
The course also considers regulation, privatisation and public-private partnerships.

  • Explain how public sector accounting interacts with other key business functions.
  • Discuss the role of financial planning and control.
  • Analyse financial and accounting information in management.
