Synopsis

This is a course on international trade, international finance and international trade organisations. This course is designed to introduce students to concepts such as foreign exchange, currency and bond markets. Throughout the course the focus will be on equipting students with the skills necessary to perform analysis of arguments, modelling of macroeconomic variables, and to construct international finance models.

Learning Outcomes

  • Identify patterns of world trade and the interdependence of national economies.
  • State international financial markets and their functions, as well as exchange rate behavior and its determinants and impact.
  • Discuss the nature of the foreign exchange market, basic parity conditions that underlie the foreign exchange activity, currency and bond markets, currency derivatives and current issues in international finance.
  • Explain factors that motivate international trade in order to articulate external economic problems, using relevant economic theories.
