Synopsis

The main topics of this course include concepts of measurement and statistics, probability concepts and applications, decision-making, decision analysis, regression models, forecasting, linear programming models and applications, project management and other quantitative approaches to problem-solving and decision-making.

In this course, you will be provided with the ability to apply quantitative techniques in business and managerial decisions. This course also provides a framework for quantitative decision-making based on empirical data analysis and results. You will learn various quantitative techniques and their applications in specific problem-solving and decision-making situations in management. You will also be exposed to using solver software present in Microsoft Excel as many problems in business and economics involve large amounts of numerical data crunching. The main topics of this course include concepts of data and measurement and quantifying of variables, probability concepts, management science applications, decision analysis, decision making, regression models, forecasting, linear programming models and their applications, project management and other quantitative approaches to problem-solving and decision making.

Learning Outcomes

  • Discuss the models that are available to analyse quantitative information to carry out their planning, controlling, and decision-making responsibilities;
  • Design, solve and write reports to top-level management by applying management science models such as linear programming, transport algorithm and assignment models;
  • Apply probability, time series and regression models for managerial planning and control to forecast;
  • Explain through the proper application of the results derived from these management science models;
  • Plan and implement project-related problems such as network, PERT and CPM to bring down the project time and cost; and
  • Recognize financial tools that help in administering finance.
