This course is designed to provide students with a comprehensive overview of the causes, manifestations and effects of poverty and social exclusion. The course will further provide students with an overview of relevant policy tools and programmes applicable to improve welfare and social inclusion. This course will give students a sound analytical grounding that will help them furthering their understanding of how policy can be used to improve society.

• Discuss the causes, manifestations, and effects of key welfare problems
• Analyze the effectiveness of relevant social policies in addressing key welfare problems
• Design a relevant policy response to selected welfare problems
• Communicate effectively using appropriate social policy related vocabulary
