Synopsis

This course is designed to assist learners in acquiring and understanding the human development throughout the lifespan of childhood and adolescents. Each major stage of development is considered across the lifespan, including infancy, preschool development, middle childhood and adolescence. During each stage, several key areas of development are examined, across physical, cognitive, and social domains. Students are also introduced to major theoretical contributions of leading developmental researchers, including as Bowlby, Erikson, Freud, Piaget, Vygotsky etc. Apart, issues related to each level of development will be discussed.

  • Explain the major theories of psychology for development of children and adolescents
  • Explain the influence of gender, culture and family on child and adolescent behavior
  • Describe psychological concepts to decision-making regarding interventions with children and adolescents. (P1, PLO3)(A1,PLO5)
