This course is based on the assumption that the best teachers critically consider what to teach, how to teach, and how to assess students and their classes. Thus, it is designed with the understanding that curriculum provides direction to instruction and assessment strategies in the classroom. This course examines theories, methods, and procedures underlying the development and design of curriculum and instruction, the interrelationships among curriculum, instruction, and assessment and presents best practices for developing curriculum and instruction which will meet the needs of an inclusive school. The history of curriculum development and evaluation as well as the importance of aligning learning theory and learner variables to meet diverse student needs are discussed. Grading, use of assessment data, planning, collaboration are addressed. Students will learn how data driven decision making can lead to improved student achievement.
