Synopsis

This course is designed to appeal to students who have an interest in working with children with disabilities and their families. The primary aim of this course is to provide students with an orientation to the ECI program and learn the techniques when working with special needs children in any social service or education program. Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) is a statewide program deals with developmental delays, disabilities or certain medical diagnoses that may impact development. ECI services support schools and families as they learn how to help their children grow and learn.

Learning Outcomes

  • Identify children with typical, atypical, and delayed development and understand how a child might qualify for the ECI program
  • Planning strategic plan to support the family and strengthen the parent’s ability to support his/her child’s development
  • Develop intervention strategies based on a child’s individual needs
