Synopsis

The course examines the philosophy, aims, goals and objectives of education; history, sociology and politics of education; culture pluralism and multicultural education; psychology of education, curriculum, instruction and assessment; and equality and inequality of educational opportunities, educational management, teacher professionalism and trends in education.

Learning Outcomes

  • Discuss personal views of the history, current problems, and future trends of public education
  • Describe models in effective teaching, including direct teaching, cooperative learning, mastery learning, and project-based instruction
  • Analyze the role of local, state, and federal governments in the governance of Malaysia schools
  • Compare and contrast the sources of state and local education funding and examine advantages and disadvantages of alternative school funding methods
  • Analyze on educational management and trends, and teacher professionalism with special reference to the local context
