This course introduces students to the field of industrial relations. After students are introduced to the “players” in industrial relations, they learn about the theories in industrial relations. This is latterly expanded to include issues in industrial relations. Students are exposed to industrial relations issues, such as tensions in management-employee relationships, employees’ grievances, and terms and conditions of service in unionized and non-unionized settings. It covers both the “preventive maintenance” approach and the “collective bargaining” approach. The details of each approach are focused so that students gain full grasp of the subject.
