Synopsis

The main objectives of this course are to provide students with a deeper understanding of investment and stock market concepts, which have been introduced in the pre-requisite courses. In particular, the students will be equipped with investment portfolio management and risk management techniques. The fixed-income securities and mutual fund operations will address the stable income and liquidity issues. The role of derivatives in risk management will also be covered. The emphasis of this course is to equip the students with investment analysis techniques and expose them to the developments and issues that exist in the investment markets.

Learning Outcomes

  • Apply portfolio theory, principles and techniques of risk diversification and performance evaluation
  • Justify return, risk and valuation of shares, bonds and derivatives individually and in a portfolio context
  • Evaluate recent developments and issues existing in the investment markets.
