The course introduces to students the importance of an effective performance management system in helping organizations define and achieve long-term and short-term goals. It explains and reinforces the concept that performance management is not a one-time supervisory event, but an ongoing process of planning, facilitating, assessing and improving individual and organizational performance. Attention will be given to the performance measurement in all business units, departments, managers and working groups. Of particular importance is the goal-achievement metrics, including the leading and the lagging indicators. The balanced perspective approach is also included, whereby it takes into consideration the relationship between cognition, behaviour and the result of the various functions in an organization.
