Synopsis

The course is designed to acquaint students with selected recent trends and theories in policy sciences. This course considers the rationale for and limits to public sector policies and how those policies can be analyzed prior to their implementation with a portion of the course devoted to cost-benefit analysis. Although the principles of economics are relied upon heavily in the course, no prior training in the subject is assumed. It focuses on the tools of policy analysis that should help students in their particular area of interest, e.g., health policy, social policy, environmental policy, etc. This course will not focus on the politics of the policy process, instead, it emphasises on the analytical tools such as future studies, scenario building, cost benefits analysis.

  • assess the means and costs of implementation.
