Synopsis

This course expose students in Speech and language disorders related areas such as oral motor function. These delays and disorders range from simple sound substitutions to the inability to understand or use language or use the oral-motor mechanism for functional speech and feeding. This course introduces students to the developmental process of speech and language skills for those who are hard of hearing. It course describes the characteristics of multiple disorders, explaining how these disorders develop and how patients can benefit from various interventions. Providing a more in-depth understanding of communication disorders, this advanced course is a continuation of previous online classes about language skill development.

Learning Outcomes

  • Describe basic human communication,including its neurological, psychological, developmental, and linguistic and cultural bases causes of retention
  • Analyze general principles that guide treatment of child language disorders from the prelinguistic period into the school years
  • Review the principles of evidence-based practice in investigating and evaluating treatment approaches for child language disorders
