Student Councils Hold Forum on Women Empowerment

September 18, 2022

An exclusive collaboration

Student Representative Councils of Universiti Tun Abdul Razak (SRCUNIRAZAK) and Universiti Teknologi Petronas (SRCUTP) had recently organised a Forum addressing  crucial issues facing women and youth today, that is “Women Empowerment Post Pandemic”.

Panelists comprised of leaders concerned with women issues in the country namely YB Dato’ Mohd Rashid bin Hasnon, Deputy Speaker of Malaysia’s House of Representatives and Batu Pahat’s Member of Parliament, YB Jamaliah Jamaludin, Bandar Utama’s State Assemblywoman, and UNIRAZAK’s Dean of the Tun Abdul Razak School of Government, Jenny Maria Gryzelius.

The forum hosted 50 participants from both universities via Google Meet and focused their discussions on women in leadership roles, structural issues facing average working women as well as outperforming peers and gender inequality within organisations.

Highlights included:

  • ways to help women have better representation in the government
  • institutional and community support for women facing labour market concerns due to domestic responsibilities and/or domestic abuse
  • tips and ways for women to outperform and/or stand out and be noticed by leaders

The 2.5-hour forum was a hit as students, regardless of gender, were highly engaged and showed a keen interest in women empowerment issues. Such engagements allow students to better prepare for their future and inspire them to work towards achieving their ambitions and be a contributing member of society later.
