The Bachelor of English programme offers a rich and immersive exploration of language, literature, and communication in a globalised world. Designed for students who are curious about how language shapes thought, culture, and society, this programme goes beyond traditional literary studies to examine English as a living, evolving medium of expression.
Students will engage deeply with literary works such as novels, short stories, poetry, and essays, while also exploring media and contemporary forms of communication. The programme provides a strong grounding in English linguistics and sociolinguistics, including the analysis of written and spoken discourse, grammar, the historical development of the English language, language learning and teaching, and the diverse varieties of English used around the world today.
What sets this programme apart is its interdisciplinary approach. An English degree today opens doors across multiple fields, connecting language and literature with media studies, communication, education, and creative industries. Students are encouraged to think critically, question meaning, and interpret texts within broader social, cultural, and global contexts.
Graduates of the Bachelor of English will be equipped with highly transferable skills that are essential in today’s professional landscape. They will develop strong analytical thinking, effective communication, and the confidence to articulate ideas clearly and persuasively, whether in writing, presentations, or professional discussions. These competencies prepare graduates to thrive in careers that value clarity of thought, creativity, and cultural awareness.
At the heart of the programme are three essential pillars:
Critical and literary analysis – cultivating logical reasoning and reflective thinking through the study of texts.
Creative expression – nurturing imagination and originality in producing impactful and meaningful writing.
Cultural and global understanding – fostering awareness of diverse cultures, civilisations, and literary traditions that shape communication worldwide.
